We’re thrilled to host our first medical course exclusively for readers here at ITS Tactical! Instruction will be provided by Caleb and his crew at Lone Star Medics and take place Saturday, May 7th thru Sunday, May 8th.
Our Medicine X course will be held on a private range just outside of Weatherford, TX. The physical address will be disclosed to those registering for the class. There will be a limited amount of seats for the class, so be sure to get your registration in soon if you’re interested.

Medicine X Course Outline
- Date: May 7-8, 2011
- Time: 0800-1700hrs
- Cost: $450/person; Members of ITS Tactical (Plank Owners and Crew Leaders) save $100! $350/person
- Location: Outback Gun Club (Private range just outside Weatherford, TX. Physical address will be disclosed once student application is returned to LSM.)
This two-day course is based off the “Care Under Fire” phase of the TCCC principles. Each student will learn how and more importantly, when to care for the wounded while in the immediate area of an ambush or active contact situation. This will be a fast-past and physically demanding course.
Each student will learn the following subjects through limited lecture, plenty of hands-on skills practice and multiple scenario-based training sessions. Students will conduct these scenarios using live fire drills as individuals or in two/four-man teams.

- Casualty Movement Techniques – Drags & Carries
- Rescue Rigging
- Improvised Litters
- Rapid Trauma Assessment/Rapid Blood Sweep
- Control Bleeding; proper use of:
- Tourniquets

- Hemostatic Agents
- Self-Aid and Buddy-Aid Techniques
- Caleb’s “Almost Famous Dehydration Lecture”
- Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK)
- Equipment
- Selection
- Proper Placement/Carry
Prerequisites
Each student must provide either a Military ID, Law Enforcement ID, ora state issued Concealed Handgun License. Non-Military or Non-Law Enforcement must provide proof of training from an accredited firearmstraining center/organization in defensive pistol and/or defensive carbine with application.
Students will be expected to demonstrate proper weapons control and manipulation throughout the course. This will not be a class for first-time (beginner) shooters. Should any person during class be deemedunsafe by either LSM, ITS Tactical, and/or acting Range Officer; they will be allowed to participate in class with a “Blue Gun” only. They will not be allowed to continue with any live firearm. No refund will be given to any student who is deemed unsafe.
Equipment List

- *Eye and Ear Protection
- Eye protection – must be actual safety and impact resistant eyewear and reading glasses do not count as eye protection.
- Ear protection – can either plugs or muffs.
- Eye and ear pro will be worn during all skills practice and scenarios.
- *Rifle or Carbine
- 5.56 or larger, .22cal conversions are welcome.
- Must be zeroed before class; a zero confirmation will be conducted after the safety brief. If you need to adjust, it must be done during a break and with a cadre member.
- Sling – whichever style you can safely use during vigorousmovement. (Kneeling, running, carrying equipment in both hands, transitions, etc.)
- *Pistol
- 9mm or larger.
- *Ammo
- 200 rounds of quality rifle, minimum
- 300 rounds of quality pistol, minimum
- NO ARMOR PIRCING OR TRACER ALLOWED!
- *Holster
- Must be specifically designed for pistol you are using in class.
- No shoulder rigs, ankle, butt-pack, or cross-draws allowed.
- Vest mounted will be on a case by case and must be approved by LSM cadre prior to class start date.
- *Magazines
- Minimum of three rifle mags (we recommend carrying more).
- Minimum of three pistol mags.
- *Mag pouches, plate carrier, chest rig, vest, whatever you need to wear to carry all your ammo through each scenario. Each student will be required to wear all kit throughout the entire course, lecture, skills practice, and scenarios.
- *Canteen of some sorts, Camelbak style recommended.
- Pen & paper for notes; small notepad might be good too.
- Long pants and long sleeve shirt recommended.
- Sturdy footwear – absolutely no sandals, or flip-flops allowed.
- Knee & elbow pads
- Gloves; Nomex, leather, be sure you can still operate firearms safely whilewearing them.
- Bug spray, sun block, hat, etc.
- Wet/Cold weather clothing; we train rain or shine.
- IFAK
- If you don’t have one, don’t worry, one will be provided for use in class.
- If you have an IFAK pouch and would like to use it in class, that’s fine as well.
- ALL MEDICAL CONTENTS WILL BE PROVIDED BY LSM.
- If you wish to have your kit evaluated by a Medic, feel free to bring it.
- Body armor and/or ballistic helmets are welcomed; but not mandatory.“Bump” or soft helmets are welcomed as well.
Registration Information
All students must be registered and have applications turned in by April 30, 2011. Each student must also make a non-refundable payment of 50% of the course price by April 30, 2011.

Notes
I personally can’t think of a better way to support wives or mothers on Mother’s Day than by learning such an important skill-set! Seriously though, we hope to be finished up by around 4 p.m. that Sunday and if you’re local you can still make it back for a Mother’s Day dinner.
I’ll be running the course right alongside everyone else and look forward to meeting some new people from ITS. Hopefully i’ll also see some familiar faces that I’ve trained with before. Again, any questions regarding the class need to be sent to Caleb as he’s handling the registration.
